THE PHANTOM EXPRESS is and it is also a great little Majestic Pictures effort. Most of their pictures contained faulty notices and fell into the public domain by default. They were also responsible for Vampire Bat and World Gone Mad and a few good western programmers. It would be a fine film to add to the collection.

The others are copyright:
BLOOD FEAST aka NIGHT OF 1000 CATS 1972 Gatt/Uraa
THE DEAD DON'T DIE 1975 Underlying work by R Bloch was renewed RE0000036952
THE BOOGEY MAN 1980 Reg'd Script PAu000123025 Contains notice
BOOGEY MAN II 1983 Reg'd PA0000512206 Contains Notice
INVASION OF THE BLOOD FARMERS 1972 Contains notice
SEEDS OF EVIL aka THE GARDENER 1975 Contains notice
MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH 1976 Notice and registered screen play PAu002913798

I can't check this one for a valid notice:
BLOOD THIRST (D-NEWT ARNOLD) 1971(? IMDB)

You say you can't check "Blood Thirst"? No information came up? Alpha Video used to put it out. The copy I have didn't come from them, though. It was directed by Newt Arnold. Thanks for checking.

the print of the Phantom Express that is on the archive already is a 55 minute tv edit. There are longer prints available, IMDB says it was released at 70 minutes, Mill Creek Entertainment print has a 65 minute length (although they often print the original runtime on the sleeve rather than the actual runtime of the VOB file on their dvd)

So if your print has a longer than 55 minute runtime, by all means please upload it and notate the runtime in the notes or in the file names.

thanks

I'll check it out. If it's longer than 55 minutes, it's yours. Sound cool?

OK, I checked and the movie I have is the same length as the one already here, so I don't think we'll bother with this one. Sorry, I was kinda hoping it was a longer version, too.

My print was mastered for NTSC and runs exactly 65 mins on video. Counting for the speedup it was probably a little under 70 mins on film. I'll try to up load it today.

I've never seen The Phantom Express, and after looking it up and reading about it a little, I'm certainly interested in checking it out!

What about Secret Agent X-9 (1937 and 1945) Is it PD?

Yes, most of them. Its the same for a lot of Monument and Republic programmers. Most had a standard
"Copyright XXXXXX
Passed by the National Board of Revue"
notice which didn't comply with the law. Even some of the pre-code movies don't identify the owner or date in the notice.

This was pretty standard on poverty row pictures until the early 40s. This is why so many Majestics, Chesterfields, Mascots, Republics, Monuments, Screen Attractions, PRCs etc from the era have resurfaced in the last decade. The prints are getting more and more expensive too. Not that many DVD companies are bothering buying prints anymore.
